Super Food: Almonds

Besides being delicious and an easy “grab-and-go”, these crunchy and satisfying nuts are nutritional powerhouses!

One handful of raw almonds a day provide you with the following:

HEALTHY FATS

Almonds are comprised of 54-60% monounsaturated fat. Monounsaturated fats are considered “healthy fats” and contribute to cell membrane health, contribute to the proper functioning of the nervous system, are anti-inflammatory and have shown to have a positive impact on lowering LDL cholesterol levels (the “bad cholesterol”) and being helpful for fighting heart disease.

HIGH IN FIBER AND PROTEIN

One almond provides you with 4 grams of fiber.
Diets high in fiber have been shown to have lower incidences of colon cancer. One cup of almonds equals 7.6 grams of protein. To put this in perspective, the average meal contains normally 15 grams of protein. So with one little snack you are getting half the protein serving of an entire meal!

ANTIOXIDANTS & MINERALS

Specifically vitamin E and bioflavanoids and Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium and Zinc. These nutrients combined are what give Almonds the reputation of being a cancer preventing food.
